Year Book
It is not by chance that UNESCO's theme this year is the culture of peace.
And it is not by chance, either, that president Hosny Mubarak attended
the UNESCO celebrations and delivered a speech on this theme. After
all it was Egypt that initiated a peace process which changed the
concepts of international relations and which is continuing until
now.
There is no doubt that the world is now progressing towards global peace.
A cursoy look at crisis areas in the world would reveal a tendency to solve
problems through peaceful negotiations. Antagonisms are beginning to recede,
giving way to cooperation and understanding important steps in the path
that would lead to a durable peace.
But the realization of peace requires the Knowledge of the nature
and life of countries and peoples. And this is where publications
like this Year Book derive their value. It is some kind of a friendly
hand extended to other peoples. The message of the Year Book is clear:
here I am explaining what makes Egypt tick: here is what we have been
able to achieve for welfare and prosperity of our people.
